She was awarded Teacher of the Year three times at the local level and once nominated Teacher of the Year at the state level. She has been involved in North Central Accreditation as a regional team chair working with schools on the school improvement process helping them achieve state accreditation. She has worked with districts in developing standards based instructional strategies and assessments as well as systems for tracking student progress and has led schools in achieving AYP improvement goals. She has worked as an academic consultant to schools with large populations of English Language Learners as well as Native American schools. Gayle has worked on language arts and math curriculum committees at the state and district levels. She was instrumental in implementing a more rigorous mathematics curriculum in her school and district. She also works with schools on effective, systematic implementation of process writing in the traits of writing. Gayle has worked as a Literacy Consultant for the Wyoming Department of Education. Gayle has been a mentor principal and is an adjunct professor. She has provided professional development and consultation to school districts around the country and has presented at state and national conferences.
